Emma Reid • fiddle
Emma Reid was brought up in Northumberland with a Swedish mother and English father. She started playing the fiddle at the age of three, and soon gained a strong passion for traditional music. At eighteen she moved to Stockholm to study Swedish folk music, graduating in November 2003 with a concert in the Stockholm Concert House. Since then she has completed a Master in Music at Newcastle University.
The distinguished fiddle traditions of Orsa and Bingsjö in Dalarna are particularly prominent in Emma’s style. As well as performing solo she works extensively in several duos and is a member of the groups Methera, Ditt Ditt Darium and Tandoori. Emma regularly performs and teaches in Sweden, Britain and the USA, and is a popular teacher at summer courses. She has also enjoyed working with theatre, storytellers and dancers. In 2005 Emma released her debut solo album, Snake Bow. Since then she has released three duo albums and set up an acoustic concert series at Izzy Young's Folklore Centrum in Stockholm.
